2009 in Review: June

It is good for steamboating, and good to drink; but it is worthless for all other purposes, except baptizing.
- Mark Twain, Life on the Mississippi

Of course an updated version of steamboating might be motorboating, I suppose, and we love June because it is the first month in which we can really enjoy the water. Turtles were on the move in our own backyards, and raspberry-infused gin & tonics were in our glasses. Tomatoes were ready for harvest, so there were bowls of perpetual salsa and bruscetta in the fridge and bread toasted on the grill.

Mike and I visited our friends Jimmy and Judy to receive more instruction on the D90, so photos on the blog improved. Lemon berry squares were made for a girls' night out at Asher's, backyard jalapeƱo poppers were both fried and grilled, Linda inspired me to fry up some green tomatoes from the backyard, and Leslie made me a lovely peacock apron. I tried out a cherry-upside-down cake recipe, Dante turned one year old, and the restaurant Coming Soon became Open Now.

But of course the real star of the month was the river.
