2009 in Review: August

Warm summer sun, shine kindly here. Warm southern wind, blow softly here. Green sod above, lie light, lie light. Good night, Dear Heart. Good night, good night. - Mark Twain

August was rather the calm before the storm of crazy wild September. We were still in Florida on August first, so Mike started out the month by working on his scuba skills. What can I say? I married James Bond.
We had quite a few more ski trips left in us and loved eating at Ubon's in Yazoo after a particularly good run on Wolf Lake.
Fresh green boiled peanuts were the food of the month.
And we discovered the glories of a sloe gin fizz for a Thursday night cocktail.
I won a photo contest with Mix1 with the photo below. The shoot was a hoot, as I needed both hands to get up on plane. So I stuck the (empty) Mix1 bottle in the neck of my life preserver until I was up and ready to reach in and grab it. Thanks to Cary for driving the boat and Mike for taking the picture.
Mike honed his slalom skills.
And I learned how to jump on the wake. It felt like flying. There were a couple of times when the rope let out some slack and I was jerked back to reality, but I managed not to bust it.

I was finally able to gain photographic evidence of chipmunks in the yard. Until this photo, Mike thought I was crazy; I was beginning to wonder myself. Those guys are fast.
Thanks to Jessica for this photo of us on the Pearl River, just south of Flag Island. The website is Klassy with a K.
Asher and I went to Birmingham to visit Leigh, and I discovered the wonders of the Cheesecake Factory. My hips did not thank me.
And Kearney became an indoor/outdoor cat, asking to go out by making the wind chime on the back door chime like Dante does. He loves it out there, chasing lizards and birds and playing jungle cat, and I believe he has trimmed up somewhat. But we have not seen many chipmunks since his discovery of the outdoors.
